There’s something about summer food that just feels different, lighter, brighter, and made to be enjoyed slowly. I recently had the chance to photograph the new summer menu at Valley Dairy Restaurant, and it was one of those shoots that did not feel like work in the best way!

From the start, the goal was to capture more than just the dishes themselves. It was about translating that easy, nostalgic summer feeling into images, something that makes you want to sit a little longer, order dessert, and soak it all in.

The kitchen was moving nonstop, bringing out plate after plate, each one carefully prepared and styled. Fresh colors, clean presentation, and those classic comfort food details that Valley Dairy does so well. Photographing food like this is all about balance, keeping things polished while still making it feel real and approachable. You want people to look at a photo and immediately picture themselves there.

In addition to photographing the new menu, I had the opportunity to grab some great shots of the staff! We posed for some onsite headshots and took some candids as they interacted with customers!

Working with a team that truly cares about what they are creating always makes a difference. There is an authenticity that comes through in the final images when everyone involved is invested, and that was definitely the case here. Summer menus are meant to feel fun and a little indulgent, and that is exactly what we aimed to capture. Bright flavors, familiar favorites, and that classic diner charm that never really goes out of style. Getting to visually tell that story for Valley Dairy was such a fun project and a good reminder that sometimes the best part of the job is simply capturing something that already feels special. If you are planning to stop in, definitely come hungry!
